Ecklonia cava brown seaweed on a Jeju shore, the source material for Ecklo Sleep

Ecklonia cava, the Jeju brown seaweed behind Ecklo Sleep.

Ecklo Sleep is a water-extracted Jeju Ecklonia cava ingredient standardized to dieckol, a natural sleep aid studied by polysomnography for shorter sleep latency, more deep sleep and less waking after sleep onset.

What Ecklo Sleep does

  • Improves sleep quality
  • Antioxidant

Ecklo Sleep is BK bio's branded sleep ingredient, made by water extraction of Ecklonia cava, a brown seaweed harvested around Jeju. Its activity is carried by the phlorotannin dieckol, which is used as the marker compound to standardize each batch. Alongside its effect on sleep, the extract is studied for antioxidant activity.

Human clinical trial

Clinical results

25.5 min
Reduction in wake after sleep onset (WASO) versus a 1.7-minute change in the placebo group.
p < 0.05
Significant reduction in sleep onset latency, alongside more Stage 3 (deep) sleep.

In a polysomnography trial conducted at the Seoul Sleep Center (Seoul National University), 24 adult men and women took 500 mg for one week. The extract significantly reduced sleep latency, increased Stage 3 sleep (the deepest sleep stage) and lowered wake after sleep onset. Safety was confirmed through one week of consumption and follow-up.
